Bollywood actor and producer Ali Fazal has sounded off about the shocking exploitation of writers in the film industry, revealing that many struggle to make ends meet despite their crucial contributions.
A Heartbreaking Reality
Fazal, known for his roles in Mirzapur 3 and upcoming projects Metro In Dino and Lahore 1947, opened up about the dire situation in an interview with film critic Sucharita Tyagi. “It breaks my heart to see writers unable to pay rent with their meager earnings,” he confessed. “I’ve experienced it myself, and it’s a sore spot that drives me to create change.”
Challenging the Status Quo
Fazal aims to disrupt the existing power dynamics, where industry bigwigs monopolize profits, leaving writers with minimal compensation. “The big guys take it all,” he lamented. “I want to ensure writers receive a fair share of the profits.”
A New Era for Writers
As a producer, Fazal is committed to paying his writers well and creating a sustainable ecosystem. “I’ll change the game,” he asserted. “I want to build a machinery that supports itself, where writers aren’t left waiting for scraps.”
Personal Joy Amidst Professional Passion
On a personal note, Fazal and his wife Richa Chadha welcomed their first child, baby girl Zuneyra Ida Fazal, on July 16, 2024. The overjoyed couple shared the news and a glimpse of their little one on Instagram.
